Stephenson, Robert
(16 oct. 1803, Willington Quay, Northumberland, Inglaterra–12 oct. 1859, Londres).

Ingeniero civil británico y constructor de puentes ferroviarios de gran luz. Hijo de George Stephenson, ayudó a su padre en la construcción de la locomotora Rocket y de varios ferrocarriles. Tendió un puente de hierro de seis arcos sobre el río Tyne para el ferrocarril de Newcastle a Berwick que estaba construyendo. Llamado a construir un puente ferroviario seguro sobre el estrecho de Menai en Gales, Stephenson concibió un diseño tubular único en su género, cuyo éxito lo llevó a construir otros puentes tubulares tanto en Inglaterra como en otros lugares.
